&#038; European"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>For a decade until now, climate change has been a big concern for citizens of all age groups in the EU. <br>This has been proved by the results of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/clima\/citizens\/support_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 Eurobarometer<\/a> which showed that 93% of Europeans believe that climate change is a serious problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, while very little has been done, the younger generations took actions and brought climate crisis to the top of the policy agenda worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, 15-year-old<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greta_Thunberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Greta Thunberg <\/a>started school strike every Friday to demand concrete climate action inspiring young protesters around the globe under the <a href=\"https:\/\/fridaysforfuture.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fridays for Future<\/a> movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lively.brussels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/cropped-FFF_logo_x960-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4738\" width=\"188\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lively.brussels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/cropped-FFF_logo_x960-2.png 250w, https:\/\/www.lively.brussels\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/cropped-FFF_logo_x960-2-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 188px) 100vw, 188px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The influence of the movement, which mobilised millions of people, served as a wake-up call for policymakers in Brussels, other European capitals and beyond.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arguably the movement inspired by Greta Thunberg served as a push for the establishment of the European Green Deal under the Von der Leyen Commission and the shift of EU policy towards sustainability in all its dimensions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>anxiety and distress over the climate crisis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Climate change, and the lack of sufficient action to fight it, is a source of worries for younger generations, as it is a direct threat to our future.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A global <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3918955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> found out that 45% of the 10,000 young people surveyed across 10 countries declared that <a>anxiety and distress over the climate crisis <\/a>was affecting their daily life. <\/strong><br>And it is the feeling of being ignored and betrayed by politicians and adults spurred the climate-related demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" Sting<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday for Future\u2019s protests also made clear that the youth want to engage and actively contribute to shape policies that will determine our future. <br>And it is this commitment towards our future that must continue making politicians accountable for their inaction or lack of ambition, at a time where science can\u2019t be clearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Young Voices<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Against this background, several initiatives have been launched by the EU Institutions to support the involvement of young European in EU environmental policies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the context of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/strategy\/priorities-2019-2024\/european-green-deal_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Green Deal<\/a>, the European Commission launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/clima\/policies\/eu-climate-action\/pact_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Climate Pact<\/a> with the objective of engaging and empowering Europeans of all age groups and origins to work together, establishing a network and developing ideas and solutions pursuing real change. <br><\/strong>The structure of the pact allows everyone to participate in the movement in many ways! <br>One of them is to become a \u2018European Climate Pact Ambassador\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ambassadors inform, inspire and support climate action in their communities, becoming a bridge between civil society, relevant stakeholders, and the European Commission. <br><\/strong>Among our duties, we advocate at the national, regional, and even local level to authorities, organisations, and business for them to engage and commit to ambitious climate action and pledges.
